Water Pressure Repairs - Testing PLV Install

Most Sydney homes sit somewhere on the Sydney Water network running between 500 and 1,200 kPa - well above the 500 kPa maximum that AS/NZS 3500.1 sets for residential fittings. If your taps hammer, your toilet cisterns hiss, or your hot water tempering valve drips overnight, your incoming pressure is almost certainly too high and is wearing out every fitting in the house.

On the low-pressure side, Tradetek Solutions sees three common patterns: a clogged pressure limiting valve (PLV) installed 10+ years ago that's silently failed shut, partially closed isolation valves after recent plumbing work, and corroded galvanised supply lines in homes built before 1980 where the internal pipe diameter has shrunk from 20mm to under 8mm. Each has a different fix.

Our diagnosis starts with a calibrated gauge on the outside tap to read static and dynamic pressure, then we flow-test individual fixtures to isolate whether the restriction is at the meter, the PLV, the hot water unit, or downstream. Pressure testing is $189 and includes a written report - that fee is credited back if you proceed with the repair.

Pricing for the common fixes in 2026: PLV replacement at the meter from $385 supplied and installed, hot water expansion control valve from $245, full main isolation valve replacement from $295, and partial galvanised-to-copper or PEX re-pipe of a problem run from $1,200.
