How It Works
Inspect Current Switchboard
We thoroughly inspect your existing switchboard, assess its condition and capacity, and identify any safety concerns or compliance issues.
Design New Switchboard
We design a new switchboard layout that meets your current and future needs — with properly rated circuit breakers, safety switches, surge protection, and spare capacity.
Professional Upgrade
Our licensed electricians replace your switchboard, re-label all circuits, install modern protective devices, and ensure all connections are tight and safe.
Test & Commission
Every circuit is individually tested, safety switches are trip-tested, and we verify the entire system is operating correctly. Full documentation is provided.
About This Service
If your Sydney home still runs on ceramic rewireable fuses (white porcelain holders, copper wire across the top), a Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panel, or any board without RCD safety switches on every circuit, you're working off pre-1980s electrical standards. Insurers are increasingly excluding fire damage where the cause is traced to a non-compliant switchboard. Solar installers won't connect new PV without RCD-protected sub-circuits. Ausgrid won't approve EV charger installs above 32A without a Type B RCD that legacy boards can't accept. And every induction cooktop, heat pump hot water and split system you add piles 20-40A onto wiring designed for 1960s lighting and toasters.
A modern Tradetek switchboard upgrade replaces the entire enclosure with a steel powder-coated or Sintex DIN-rail board sized for your current load plus future growth (solar inverter, battery, EV charger, ducted AC). We install Type 2 surge protection at the main, 30mA RCBOs on every circuit (combined RCD + circuit breaker per circuit - the AS/NZS 3000:2018 standard), labelled circuit directory, neutral and earth bars sized correctly, and tested earth bond to the water service. Every job is Notified to Ausgrid via the standard CCEW and you receive the compliance certificate within 5 working days.
Sydney 2026 pricing: standard single-phase residential upgrade (6-12 circuits) from $1,890; large single-phase with solar provision (12-18 circuits, surge protection, solar sub-circuit) $2,490-$3,290; three-phase residential upgrade $3,490-$4,890; commercial and strata switchboards on quote after site assessment. Most jobs completed in a single day with 4-6 hour planned power-off (we coordinate timing around school runs, work-from-home meetings or fridges full of food).
Hidden cost watch: an asbestos-backed board (common in pre-1985 Sydney homes) needs SafeWork NSW notified Class B removal and adds $250-$450 to the job. If the existing meter panel needs the consumer mains upgraded (16mm2 to 25mm2), that's Level 2 ASP work at $890-$1,490 extra. We carry a full Level 2 ASP licence in-house so it's one trade, one quote, one day - not a six-week wait for a sub-contractor.
Coverage: all Sydney metro, Northern Beaches, North Shore, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, Hills District, Sutherland Shire, the Central Coast and Newcastle. NSW licensed electrical contractor (Lic. 388103C), Level 2 ASP for service mains, $20m public liability, written compliance certificate and updated switchboard schedule on every job.
