AS/NZS 3000:2018 requires a 30 mA residual current device (RCD) on every final sub-circuit in a domestic installation – lights, power, oven, air-con and hot water. The vast majority of Sydney homes wired before 2018, and almost every home wired before 2008, have only one or two RCDs covering power circuits and nothing on lighting or the oven. That gap is what kills people during a fault.

Every device we install is tested with a Metrel or Fluke RCD tester to confirm it trips within 300 ms at rated current (30 mA) and within 40 ms at five-times rated current, per AS/NZS 3760. We log the test results and attach them to the CCEW. A safety switch that has never been tested is not proof of safety.

Older Sydney switchboards (ceramic fuses, push-button breakers, asbestos backing boards) often can't physically accept modern RCBOs, so we'll quote a partial or full switchboard upgrade instead. A typical 6-pole RCBO retrofit is $890–$1,290; a full switchboard rebuild with all-RCBO protection is $1,890–$2,890 depending on board size and meter relocation needs.
