Backflow Prevention — Accredited Testing

Sydney Water's Trade Waste & Backflow team requires every commercial, industrial and medium/high-hazard site to test their backflow prevention device annually under the Plumbing & Drainage Act 2011 (NSW) and AS 2845.3. Miss the deadline and you face a $750 reminder fee plus potential prosecution. Our testers are Sydney Water accredited and lodge your annual certificate directly with the Sydney Water portal within 24 hours of testing — you don't touch paperwork.

Annual test is $189 for a single device (RPZD, DCV, DCDA or single-check). Properties with multiple devices: 2nd device $145, 3rd+ $99 each. Test takes 30–45 minutes per device, with no water shutdown for most low-hazard valves and 15-min isolation for RPZDs. We bring calibrated Watts/Wilkins test kits with NATA traceability certificates current to 12 months — required for the certificate to be valid.

New install required? Most Sydney commercial properties need at minimum a DCV (dual check valve) at the boundary — install from $385. Higher-hazard sites (medical, dental, food processing, chemical, irrigation with fertigation) need an RPZD (reduced pressure zone device) — install from $1,450 including pit, isolation valves, drain and first certification. We size correctly to AS 2845.1 hazard rating so you don't pay for over-spec.

Repairs to failed devices done same-visit where possible — typical fault is a fouled first check valve or a perished diaphragm, parts from $245 + labour.
