Colorbond Roofing - Install, Replace & Full Re-Sheet

Modern Colorbond is a hot-dip Zincalume-coated steel base with an Activate coating system rated to 36 years in low-to-medium coastal exposure zones. Done properly it outlives the building it sits on. Done badly - undersized purlins, wrong screw pattern, no anti-capillary lap, sealant in the wrong place - and it'll leak inside three years and corrode at the cut edges within seven.

Our installations follow AS 1562.1 (Design and installation of metal roofing) and the BlueScope SteelSelect installation manual to the letter: minimum 1° pitch (we recommend 5°+ for residential), 150mm end laps with sealant tape, hex-head Class 4 screws into every second corrugation at the laps and every third in the body, anti-capillary turn-up at gutter edges, and full flashings at parapets, valleys, ridges and penetrations.

Tile-to-Colorbond conversions: existing tile roof stripped, battens inspected and replaced where needed (most pre-1990 timber battens are too soft for safe screw fixing into Colorbond), 75mm Anticon or 55mm Sisalation foil-faced blanket installed for thermal performance and condensation control, new metal battens at 900mm centres for standard Colorbond corrugated or Trimdek, then sheet installation in the chosen profile and colour. Typical 200m² roof conversion is 4-5 days with a crew of three.

Full re-sheet of an existing metal roof follows the same sequence minus the tile strip. We capture and dispose of the old sheeting through licensed metals recycling - the salvage value is usually credited against the job. Whirlybirds, ridge venting, gutter and downpipe replacement, fascia covers and skylight reinstatement are all coordinated under the one contract.

Standard 36-year coating warranty from BlueScope on Colorbond Ultra (coastal areas within 1km of breaking surf) or 22-year on Colorbond Classic for inland exposure, paired with our 10-year workmanship warranty on the install. All works are SafeWork NSW height-compliant, edge protection on every job, and Tradetek is fully licensed and insured to $20m public liability.
