How It Works
Assessment
We inspect your roof structure, assess the best skylight location, and discuss size, type, and glazing options.
Product Selection
We help you choose the right skylight — fixed, operable, tubular, or solar tube — based on the room and your requirements.
Installation
Our roofers cut the opening, install the skylight with proper flashing and waterproofing, and finish the interior shaft.
Completion
We test for water tightness, clean up inside and out, and provide warranty documentation for the skylight and installation.
About This Service
Skylights and daylight tubes transform internal rooms but they have to be installed properly - the flashing kit must match the roof profile, the ceiling shaft has to be insulated and lined, and the cut must align with both the roof rafter spacing and the ceiling joist spacing. Most leaking skylights we attend are non-genuine units fitted with generic flashings instead of the matched kit; the small upfront saving costs the ceiling rebuild later.
Tradetek installs genuine Velux (the global market leader, 80-year warranty history) and SolarTube (the original tubular daylight device). Velux fixed VS units bring direct natural light into living areas. Velux openable VSE units (manual or solar-powered) add ventilation to bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms. SolarTube 250mm or 350mm tubes bring daylight into windowless internal rooms - hallway, walk-in robe, ensuite - via a reflective tube through the roof cavity.
Every install includes the manufacturer's factory flashing kit (Velux EDW for tile, EDL for slate, EDS for low-pitch metal; SolarTube manufacturer flashing matched to roof type), insulated ceiling shaft lined in plasterboard and painted, blockout or pleated blind option for Velux units, and a full roof penetration sealed with butyl tape under the flashing and Dektite-style EPDM where flashing meets sheeting.
Most single-storey installs complete in one day. Two-storey or complex roof structures take 1.5-2 days. You receive the manufacturer warranty (10 years on leak, 20 years on insulating glass for Velux), our workmanship warranty in writing, and a written photo report of the install - critical for insurance and resale.
What We Do
Why Choose Us
Genuine Velux & SolarTube
Original manufacturer products with full warranty - not generic skylights that leak in 5 years and aren't covered.
Factory Flashing Kit
Velux EDW/EDL/EDS or SolarTube flashing matched to your roof profile - the only flashings the warranty actually covers.
Insulated Ceiling Shaft
Shaft lined with insulation and plasterboard, painted to match ceiling - not a raw chase that condensates and stains in winter.
Licensed Roof Plumber
Roof penetrations sealed to manufacturer spec by a licensed roof plumber - the only install backed by the leak warranty.
